As the Crow Flies

Direct and shortest distance among two places, distance estimated in a straight line

Etymology:

  • This idiom is originated to the fact that crows always fly in a direct/straight line to their destination. They never change their area or take detour. It is true that we use different paths and directions to reach at any specific place. But the path that goes straight without any detour and obstacle could be symbolizes with ‘as the crow flies’. However, this could be unrealistic as it never happens always that we get straight path for any place.
