Etymology:
- This expression is originated from some ancient Hebrew idioms appear in modern English. In bible – Book of Job (19:20), Job says, “I have escaped with the skin of my teeth”. However, our teeth don’t have any skin, but quite thin coated film exists (can be seen only by microscope) when we wake up. Similarly, when we literally get escaped from a dangerous situation or happening, this interval could be resembled with that thin film of teeth. We cannot estimate or notice that interval, but we can symbolize it.
