Etymology:
- This expression was used by writers to show an angry situation or a person. In the early days of cinema, only motion pictures were played without sound and other effects and it was difficult to catch the exact words. Angry people on the screen used to move quickly and showed fast motions of lips and mouth. It seemed that they were chewing something and that lead to the birth of this idiom.
