Etymology:
- 150 years ago, trains or locomotives were run fast by steam. Thousands of steam boats were also used in America’s major rivers. There was a car also which ran on steam. When ship’s captain or a train’s engineer shouted “Full steam ahead”, it meant to “put the steam boiler up to maximum pressure so we can go faster”. During the civil war in 1864, Rear Admiral David G. Farragut used this expression in the battle of Mobile Bay to get his Navy advance quickly. Today this expression can be used while you work on any project.
