Hide or Hair

Etymology:

• This is an old 13th century expression used during the times of well-Known English poet Geoffrey Chaucer. Since 19th century, the expression was used in negative as “neither hide nor hair” referring to a situation in which an animal runs away and escapes a hunter. As the outer surface of animal body is made of skin (hide) and hair, if the animal hides in the bush, he is not to be seen or found, you can’t find neither hide nor hair of him. So we use this expression to anything that is lost and missing.
