Kick the Bucket

To perish, die or expire, no more alive

Etymology:

  • It is a 16th century English phrase. In those days, prisoners were hanged by keeping them stand on the buckets with their necks being trapped in a strap or loop and by kicking the bucket from under their feet .Similar those criminals who used to commit suicide by hanging themselves used to kick that bucket under their own legs. Today the expression refers to any kind of death.
