Knee-High to a Grasshopper

Etymology:

• In 1814, this phase was recorded as “knee high to a toad”, but according to many people, it could be knee high to a toad, bumblebee, duck, mosquito or anything that is tiny or small. Some also used “splinter” which is small and does not have knees But among all tiny creatures, it was grasshopper that actually caught on in 1850, because it really has knees so to coming to a knee high to a grasshopper means to be short and less than an inch tall.
