Etymology:
- Just imagine, if someone locks the door and you are left outside in the cold weather, you would definitely feel rejected, ignored and left out. Today it is used to refer to keep someone out or away from something important. Earlier the expression was used as it is, “left out in the cold” mean to expel or exclude someone out of the room to suffer cold weather.
