Etymology:
- The origin of this idiom dates back to the 17th century when many dirt roads were used. The tracks were covered by the feet of people, hooves of horses or wagon wheels as they passed. On the other hand, if some place is “off the beaten path”, only a few people travel through that track. With the passage of time, this expression is now used for expressing something very unusual, or anything not well known to people.
