Pay Through the Nose

Etymology:

• This phrase originated in the 17th century. It is noticing that for money, there was a slang word called “Rhino” which actually was believed to be a Greek word which meant nose. Since these two words had similar sounds and their meanings were joined to make this expression. In 9th, it might have come from Danish origin where authorities charged Irish people heavily who failed to give their poll taxes. The phrase might have originated from gambling in which a player was deceived to lose all his money.
