Etymology:
- General Andrew Jackson was the first person who used this saying during New Orleans Battle in 1815, when he was willing to move his army together (“rally”) in order fight the army of Britain in the war of 1812. The “flag” he was referring was the flag of U.S. (United States was able to win that war, and Jackson became the 7th president of U.S, from 1829-1837. Similarly, this phrase was also used in a song during the civil war. In contemporary world, people use this phrase to show their support, care and backing for something.
