• This idiom originated in the 20th century. Actually it took its form from a list of phrases that suggest to getting overpowered with feelings of love and passion such as “she is a knock out; he bowled her over” and to express passion like “They got carried away with each other”. All these expressions refer to strong feelings of emotions and passion and to knock out or overpower someone with these intense sentiments that sometimes make you hard to resist.
