To have more arrows in your quiver means you have other ideas, options, resources, alternative ways and/or strategies to accomplish a goal

Etymology:

  • It may have originated from The Bible. Psalm 127:4–5 says: “Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!” The Bible is referring here to children, but the idiom, as it is now, probably has some reference to warriors in battle being more successful if they have more arrows at their disposal.

It's no problem that the first attempt at my new invention didn't work. I'll get there. I have many more arrows in my quiver.
