A phrase is group of words that occur together in a sentence but does not have complete meaning of a sentence. A phrase is always missing either the subject or the verb.

In order to identify a phrase in a sentence always look for words that are occurring together or go together. Make sure that the group of words is not containing the subject or verb in it.

Example:

The young girl slept soundly in the dimly lit room.

In the above sentence, there are three phrases:

The young girl

Slept soundly

Dimly lit room
