Etymology:
- The exact origin of this phrase is not known to anybody but in 19th century this has been used by many English writers in their writings. The expression might have come from the story of a man who once killed his enemy and hid his dead body in his cupboard in order to keep it hidden from his neighbors, but later it was brought out. So the expression refers to keep your bad thing in secret from people.
