Blue Blood

Belonging to upper class of the society or having a royal background

Etymology:

  • This term became popular in the England during 18th century. But its original roots belong back to the Spanish families, who were proud of their noble and royal lifestyle. They used to be very careful about the color of their skin, as it was white and blood veins were clearly visible. Blue colored veins gave birth to this idiom. ‘Upper crust’ is another idiom that is used in the same sense. Today this word is popular in the modern literature and used on different platforms, to distinguish the upper society or royal people.
