bring home the bacon

Etymology:

• It is believe that there are two different sources of origin of this idiom. In America this term came out from a fair in, which people use to run after greased pigs. One who was successful to catch the pig would bring it home. On the door of English churches a couple, which was able to make a promise that they never fought would take bacon with them to their home. Later this term was used to describe prize or deserving money for participants of any game.
