Etymology:
- This idiom was used in the early 19th century to refer an abundantly apologize for mistakes. In medieval times, there was a pie called as ‘numble’ or ‘umble’. ‘Umble’ were the liver, entrails, and heart of deer and other animals and servants of that time ate a pie prepared of animals’ guts. The ‘umble’ of this pie changed into ‘humble’ that means submissive and lowly.
