Eat Your Words

To admit your mistake humbly; to say sorry for something you did or said; to take your words back

Etymology:

  • Anything we say or any word comes out will not come back to our mouth again. So we should not say anything for which later on we have to feel sorry. This idiom refers to say something that turns out not to be true and maybe we wish we could take back those words we said and eat them.
