Etymology:
- This short phrase dates back to 1920s and was much popular in America. Actually it referred to affluent and rich people of society who used to support politicians financially. They were called “fat” because it referred to both the size of their body particularly the waistlines that suggest how much one eats and the size of wallet means their wallets were overfilled with money. Cat is a rhyming word addition as rhyming sounds are commonly and popularly used in making idiomatic phrases.
