Etymology:

  • It is a 20th century American phrase. The favorite food of monkeys is bananas. When you talk about monkeys, you think of insane and idiotic devour, the frenzied acts immediately come to your mind (“monkey business”, “more fun than a barrelful of monkeys”, etc.).
