On Cloud Nine

Etymology:

• The number nine has been considered as a spiritual number for many years since the time of the ancient Greeks. The origin of this idiom is considered to be from the 19th century. This idiom is a modified form of the phrase “on cloud seven.” The expression could have come from another phrase “seventh heaven” which is the highest heaven according to Jewish. The number nine replaced seven because of the importance in Christian religion. The reason for replacement is the trinity which represents unity. Moreover, nine is simply a trinity of trinities i.e. 3 times 3.
