The 'well-strapped, well beaten, shivering ' Bob 'D' was brought back into our sixth-grade classroom by the PRINCIPAL so that we classmates could witness the facial expressions, the tears from the painful suffering My stomach churned and wrenched from looking at poor Bob's white, pain wrought face! I empathized with him but not a whisper or an ''AH" was heard from the student body. I put myself in Bob's place and wondered how I could hold up under such a vicious beating! I could see the fear and revulsion on the faces of my peers! Most pupils were fear stricken, because if they were to receive a whipping of this nature, they were sure to receive another at home if their parents got wind of such a punishment: As I write, I wince and twitch in recalling the appalling scenario I witnessed over eighty five years ago!
