Etymology:
- It is an expression associated with sound which originated in 20th century. The writer must have had sharp ears that imagined thinking someone snoring, he recalled the sound of snuffling is similar to the sound of wood that is sawed or chopped into slices. The same idea is used even today by many cartoonists in their pictures by drawing a piece of wood with a saw that lie above people’s head that snore. So the expression simply deals with people snoring when they are in sound sleep.
