Spitting Image

Etymology:

• The original version of this phrase was “spit and image” which meant similarity. The word had been shortened to “spit” from original word “spirit’. Later after many years it was pronounced as smitten and now spitting. The phrase became much popular since used in the meaning of resemblance or similarity, it was said a child who looked like his father must have spit from his mouth.
