Etymology:
- The expression came into existence through modified form of a slang “big wheel” which refers to a very important person. On the same terms, a “wheeler dealer” is the important person who make substantial business deals. The expression originated from the gambling houses in American West, where the some of the gamblers were heavy betters. The betting process can include through cards “deals” and the roulette i.e. “wheel.” In some cases, the phrase is used for those persons who are willing to operate in tricky or dishonest fashion to grab the opportunity.
