white rabbit

White rabbit is the first thing one must say, usually 3 times, on the first day of each month.

Etymology:

  • White was produced by translating “month” to Hebrew [W]oDe[T] חוֹד שׁ and transliterating חוֹד שׁ to white. [The (schwa-less) het-W parallel was my first linguistic discovery. The shin’s ancient D/T-sound is well accepted.] Rabbit was produced the same way by translating “multiply, increase” to Hebrew RaBohT רבּוֹת and transliterating that word to rabbit.
