Etymology:
- This idiom has been deduced from a short story, which was published in UK in 15th century. It is about some children, who were abandoned in the woods and never recovered and they died of hunger. More precisely it is about two children, who inherited some wealth after their parents died. They were looked by their uncle, who was actually interested in their inheritance and wanted to kill them. He hired ruffians to get rid of the children but they were somehow too kind to do that. They left the children in the forest and they died and were covered by leaves.
