Nothing left, ruined, everything is lost
Etymology:
- This expression has been used by Americans for more than a century. The expression originated as a modified form of two phrase “the whole kit” and “the whole boodle”, used in the 18th and 19th century, respectively. The word “kit” is often used to represent a set of things or tools. The word “boodle” is a Dutch word which is similar to kit to refer to collection of objects. Both the words were combined by an intellect to form “the whole kit and boodle” to refer to the whole thing. Later, the American added a consonant sound as per their liking to make the whole idiom “whole kit and caboodle.”
